Welcome to this Little History website about Cherington and Stourton, two beautiful

small villages in Shakespeare’s county of Warwickshire, in the Midlands of England.

I hope that you enjoy your visit to them.

A main feature of this site is a free, digital edition of a rare 1934 volume, Margaret Dickins’ Little History of Cherington and Stourton, made available by kind permission of the author’s descendants. Through documentary evidence, the short work traces the history of the villages from medieval times to the early twentieth century. Comprehensive new indexes of personal names and places, and a glossary of archaic, historical and architectural terms used, are provided to aid readers of both the digital and the original edition.

The website holds many village photographs and other illustrations, with background information, and links to associated sites. The whole text of Miss Dickins' book, plus additions, can be downloaded as linked and bookmarked pdf files. A notable section of the site is that devoted to villagers who served their country in the Great War and in World War Two. Please browse through the drop-down menus under the navigation buttons for the main pages. And do listen to the peals of the church bells!

For pages on local and family history related to some other Warwickshire villages, you may like to visit the Littlebeams website, via the graphical links on the page heading of this site.
