Pressing cider apples on the Green, Sutton-under-Brailes, half a mile from Stourton.

The sheepwash in the "washbrook" at Sutton-under-Brailes was used by farmers for miles around until the late 1930s (but never for dipping). May was the busy month; washing the sheep before shearing could add a considerable 2d/3d (1p) to the value of a pound of wool. This 1930s photograph is reproduced in the Millennium History.
