The most remarkable feature in the church is the tomb in the nave, of the early 14th century. The dress is that of a frankelein or franklin, a substantial free tenant farmer, and as such, has been described as a “unique effigy”. It is discussed at length in Margaret Dickins’ Little History, where she attributes it to William Lucy, knight, (1277-after 1325).
The apparently regal figure, left, is at head height on the south wall of the Parish Church. The second figure is also on the south wall, at a similar height.
